One of my favorite food blogs is Shared Appetite. Through his site, I follow Chris on his culinary adventures both in and out of the kitchen. His blog is witty and approachable and his food photography makes me want to crawl through the screen to eat whatever he’s highlighting! Get to know him in this gab session and don’t forget to check out the recipe for his insane Slow Cooker Korean Chicken Sliders!
What?s your two to three sentence bio?
Chris is a New York based food blogger that loves bringing friends and family together through food. On his blog, Shared Appetite, Chris chronicles his culinary adventures of eating his way in and around NYC, as well as cooking and entertaining at home.
How long have you been blogging about food?
I?ve been blogging for about 3 years. It all started because a teacher colleague of mine said that she was always intrigued where I was going out to eat in NYC and what I was making for my next party. She told me I should start a food blog. Uhm, what?s that? I literally had no clue what a blog was.
What are your top five kitchen tools ? the ones that are indispensable to you and why?
Definitely my Le Creuset dutch oven. Love that thing. And my immersion blender. It?s super versatile. My new favorite kitchen toy is my immersion water circulator for sous vide cooking. Okay, that?s only three.
My knife? it?s pretty bad donkey and a good knife is a necessity in the kitchen. And probably a good thermometer (I have a Thermapen).
Since you?re a music teacher by day, I?d imagine you?ve always got something playing in the background. What do you listen to while you work?
Actually, if you can believe it, I prefer quiet in the kitchen or maybe just a little ?white noise?… the TV on in the background is typically what you?ll find when I?m cooking at home. I know? I?m weird. But when you listen to 4th grade beginning band students blasting out notes in your face all day, you come home and look forward to the? silence.
Morning person or night owl? When do your creative juices flow?
100% morning person. I?m that annoying person that wants to wake up early and get the day started. I?ve never tried coffee, and hopefully never will. I?m just naturally caffeinated.
You take mouth-watering pictures of your food! Take us behind the scenes ? how do you set up the shoot for your pictures? Special camera? Lighting kits? Props?
You?re too kind! I love photography. It?s something I?ve been trying to practice quite a bit the last year or so. I actually wrote a few posts about this very topic? An Introduction To Food Photography , Top 10 Ways To Improve Your Food Photography, My Favorite Food Photography Gear

You ? like me ? enjoy going to food-related events. You have pictures of yourself with some famous food personalities on your site. Who did you really like and why?
Our fave food personality is def Alton Brown. We?ve met him several times and he?s always a class act. Asheley is in love with Geoffrey Zakarian. It?s her silver fox. He?s always a super nice guy as well.
Do you do most of the cooking or does Asheley?
Asheley is definitely an official taste tester for Shared Appetite, but don?t let her fool you. The girl is a mean sous chef. She loves to chop and stir. Seriously. She can also make a pretty great game day chili.
What?s one thing about you that your readers probably don?t know?
Probably that I love Taco Bell. Seriously, it?s a problem. My buddy Tyler and I get it whenever we get a chance. Both our wives aren?t fans so we have to rely on each other to get our fix. Judge me as you will, but TB is the bomb dot com.
Name three bloggers that you secretly want to be best friends with!
I cheated and put more than 3. Oops. My fellow wolfpack friends? huh? Wolfpack? Dude food bloggers are kinda rare (like unicorns, sasquatch, and finding dark chocolate M&Ms at the grocery store). When we find other dudes, we stick together. Our current wolfpack is David @ Spiced Blog, Mike @ The Iron You, Sean @ Snack Fixation, and Matt @ Real Food by Dad. There?s a secret handshake and annual membership. It?s pretty legit.
