Everyone loves a “Top 10 List,” right? Check out the Top 10 Recipes from Garlic & Zest of 2019. These are recipes that were the most shared, commented, pinned and liked. They include some brand new dishes as well as a few resurrected recipes. Did your favorites make the list?
This year, I spent a good portion of my time updating older recipes, modernizing and streamlining the steps for making each dish if not remaking altogether, rephotographing the process and rewriting the posts. Essentially, giving new life to those recipes and reminding myself that it’s not just about new recipes — it’s about GOOD recipes. In some cases, I hadn’t even thought of those dishes since they were first published a ‘coons-age ago. A shame, because they really are delicious. So without further ado, here are my top 10 recipes of 2019!
A version of this cake has been on the website since 2014, but the photos were meh, and the recipe deserved a facelift. This is the happy result of that effort and this cake has received a lot of attention since.
Loaded with fresh peaches and cherries macerated in amaretto with a crunchy oatmeal streusel, it’s no wonder it made the Top 10.
Everyone loves this classic soup, especially on cool days. You’ll love it even more because it’s so easy to make with standard kitchen fare and a few canned conveniences.
This fiery smoked pork has only 2 ingredients and doesn’t take all day to smoke. It’s great with coleslaw or piled onto a bun for an epic sandwich!
These easy 3 ingredient party appetizers are ridiculously simple to make and completely irresistible. In fact, you’d better make a double batch – this recipe went viral.
These easy pickled onions are ready in minutes and make a delicious topping on tacos, sandwiches or with that jerked pork recipe above.
This tangy, briny salad mixture goes great on a traditional muffuletta sandwich, but we found we love the olive mix to dip with crackers as an appetizer too!
This is one of our go-to grilled steak recipes from my grandmother and Aunt Betty’s recipe — and my readers loved it too. Just a handful of ingredients make this flavorful marinade which tenderizes and flavors the steak. Grill it to your desired doneness.
These scones had been on the website since 2014, but my photos weren’t up to par. I remade them, updated the recipe using a softer dough and meyer lemons and it quickly shot to the top for popularity. We enjoyed these on Christmas morning while opening presents, but I won’t wait another year to make them again!
The #1 recipe of 2019 is:
This was already a very popular recipe, but the pictures didn’t match the meaty, umami deliciousness of this roast. I remade it, rephotographed it but didn’t change a thing about the recipe. It’s perfection as is.
