Stylish Manual Coffee Grinders & Cold Brew Coffee Makers

This post contains affiliate links. All opinions are my own. With holidays sneaking up on us, I wanted to share some fun gift giving (or self-giving) ideas for coffee lovers in your life. For the purist, I’ve found a conical burr coffee grinder (a.k.a. manual coffee grinder) that crushes your favorite beans into perfectly even grounds, (even better than my electric coffee grinder). Cold brew coffee is a huge trend right now (I sampled tons at the Fancy Foods Show) and I’ve found a beautiful cold brew coffee maker that turns out a smooth, rich cup.   I love the theater that comes with the pour-over — you just have to see it. Lastly, double wall coffee cups are ideal for keeping hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold. The artful glass coffee cups I found perform mightily.

How Do You Start Your Day?

If you’re anything like me, the day doesn’t start without a cup of coffee (or two or three). I admit that normally, I’m satisfied with pre-ground beans, drip coffee and “Best Mom Ever” coffee mug, but recently my dependable routine has started to feel more like a rut.  Veering out of my comfort zone, I recently opened my eyes to some stylish, functional and beautiful coffee gear that made me feel like I need to RUN from my old routine and into modern day java-nirvana.  I thought you might be interested too. Let’s start with the manual coffee grinder.

What Is A Conical Burr Coffee Grinder?

Types of Coffee Grinders (Electric and Manual Coffee Grinder)

Blade grinders are what they sound like. Electric blades that chop and pulverize, but don’t actually turn out uniform coffee grounds. In fact, depending on your individual grinders, you can get a wild hodgepodge of grinds in the same container. Additionally, Blade grinders heat up the longer they run — and that’s bad news for flavor and aroma of the beans.

Conical Burr Coffee Grinder uses the burrs to crush the beans into uniform particles (without inflicting damaging heat to the grounds.) Essentially, the manual coffee grinder will give you a more even grind and a better cuppa joe.

How Long Does It Take For A Manual Coffee Grinder

This Bremen manual coffee grinder by Grosche is whimsical and practical. It’s also a better arm workout than my weight training class at the gym.

  1. Screw the burr grinder onto the glass container.
  2. Fill it with beans and crank the handle.
  3. It takes about 2 to 2 1/2 minutes to grind 8 ounces of coffee.

The fine grounds float into the jar like the sands from an hourglass. The jar also comes with a handy lid to keep your fresh grounds, well… fresh.

If you (or a friend) enjoy cold brew coffee, this simple cold brew coffee maker is a MUST. The Havana iced coffee maker from Grosche is sleek and modern and makes a very fine cup of cold brew.

Three Parts To The Cold Brew Coffee Maker

The Pitcher – A delicate glass pitcher that holds up to 34 ounces of liquid. The pitcher comes with a removable rubber foot to prevent cracks or breaks from setting it down on a counter too hard.

The Infuser Insert – Some might call this a filter, but since the grounds soak overnight, I think infuser is a better word.  Add the coffee to the infuser and pour the water over  them. No agitation, no mixing. Just a good soak.  (Incidentally this iced coffee maker would be excellent for making iced tea (with loose tea leaves) or infused water (fill with  citrus, herbs or other fruit/vegetable combos).

The Lid – The glass lid for the cold brew coffee maker has a rubber ring around the seal to prevent the essence and aromas from escaping the pitcher as well as stopping the smell of yesterday’s tuna salad from infiltrating your cold brew.

The Function Behind The Iced Coffee Maker

I was very impressed with the construction and fine gauge pin-holes of the infuser. They are micro-fine and give you confidence that whatever you fill it with will STAY IN THE FILTER. No one wants to drink coffee grounds, right? Also it was fun to watch the water being poured into the filter and the cascade of liquid flowing from those tiny pin-pricks… I know. I’m easily amused.

12 hoursat least. However, a longer soak isn’t a bad thing. Up to 24 hours will give you a balanced, robust cup of iced coffee.

Insulated Cups

Sure, you can use a regular glass or mug for hot and cold beverages, but when you’re on the go, these stylish Glassen Double Walled Mugs are great for keeping hot things hot and cold things cold…. longer. I don’t know about you, but one of MY pet peeves is coffee that’s not HOT… or COLD as the case may be. That lukewarm in between is just NOT appealing. These glass coffee cups (or whatever you decide to fill them with) keep your beverages hot AND cold– without that INDUSTRIAL look.

Glass Double Wall Coffee Cups

With three pieces (the glass double wall coffee cup, soft silicone holder and silicone lid) this fashionable glass coffee cup is lightweight and strong. It kept my cold brew coffee —  chilled to the last sip — and the ice didn’t melt for hours afterwards. This mug easily fits in all standard cupholders.

I’m going to have to order more, because my husband is eyeing mine and I just know that as soon as I’m not looking, he’ll snag it as his travel mug. They’d also make a great gift for your on-the-go family and friends.

  1. First of all, Happy Birthday to You!!! I so enjoy your blog and all of your recipes! I love coffee.. but my husband doesn’t share my love of coffee, in fact, he is fine with instant coffee (yuck).. Personally, I enjoy a couple of cups of Peets French Roast, has to be French Press Coffee though.. with a 1/4 teaspoon of salt .. Alton Brown’s recommendation for smooth and trust me, it works!
