Do You Need An Air Fryer Converter?
Before we get started, I need to address the elephant in the room. I’m not a fast adopter to new things, even kitchen gadgets, which may be surprising given my current role as a food blogger. So when I was out in Utah at the Everything Food Conference and heard about the Mealthy CrispLid which transforms most multi-cookers into Instant Pot air fryer, I honestly wasn’t that into it.
I still view my Instant Pot with a tinge of derision because it’s so big and I have to keep it in my spare bedroom due to a lack of storage space. Consequently, an air fryer converter wasn’t high on my list of must haves and it sat in the box for a solid 3 months, completely neglected.

Mealthy CrispLid – An Easy Air Fryer Converter
When I finally pulled it out of the packaging, I realized that this gadget isn’t nearly as big and bulky as I’d feared and it transforms any standard multi pot into a super-hot convection oven.
It’s very easy to use too. Intuitive, I would call it. Just plop the lid on top of your multi pot, set the temperature and timer and GO. When the CrispLid is in use — the multi pot creates that oven-like quality, bouncing the hot air over and around the food and I have to say, it produces excellent results.
Here’s What I Found:
- The CrispLid is an air fryer converter for all types and sizes of multi pots currently on the market.
- It comes with a special mesh basket and stand to elevate your food close to the heating and convection element, ensuring even crisping all around your food.
- The air fryer converter adjusts its heating throughout the cooking process so that your food doesn’t burn.
- The temperature and timers are controlled with the simple push of a button.
- The CrispLid comes with a silicone pad to rest the hot convection element on when you remove the lid. It’s hot, so you don’t want to put it on anything that could melt, stain or is flammable… The silicone pad protects your counters.
- Most importantly, the Mealthy CrispLid gives you an Instant Pot air fryer that does a great job of cooking and crisping outside while keeping the dish tender and moist inside. How do I know? I tested it with a few of the 100 air fryer recipes from Urvashi’s new cookbook, starting with the Brazilian Chicken Drumsticks.

100 Air Fryer Recipes
As a self-proclaimed cookbook hoarder and new devotee to my Instant Pot airfryer, I was very happy to review Urvashi Pitre’s new Air Fryer Revolution cookbook with 100 air fryer recipes.

I spent the better part of two evenings, sipping wine and reading through Urvashi’s 100 air fryer recipes (reading cookbooks and drooling over mouthwatering pictures is a hobby of mine).
What I LOVE About This Cookbook
- EVERY DISH is quick and easy to make.
- Most of the dishes can be made in just 2-4 steps.
- Most ingredients are fresh and readily available.
- The multi-national flavors in this book are perfect for picky AND adventurous eaters.
- This book is thoughtfully laid out with an overview of Air Frying and how it’s different from a standard oven cooking (conduction vs. convection).
- Tested and retested recipes – these recipes work.
- Most recipes have a hands on cooking time under 30 minutes from start to finish. Some require resting time for marinades etc.
- Recipes are easy enough for beginning cooks.

I think the spice mixes are where Urvashi’s book shines. They play a big role in her recipes, adding real PUNCHES of flavor and coaxing out the best in each dish.

A Sampling Of Air Fryer Recipes In The Book
- Cheese Drops – “soft biscuity bites of heaven”.
- Onion Pakoras – “tasty savory fritters”.
- Cheesy Baked Grits – uses #RuthlessEfficiency for a tasty dish you can whip up quickly.
- Queso Fundido – with chorizo, tomatoes, jalapeños and cheese.

- Roasted Ratatouille – an easier, slightly crisper version of the laborious original.
- French Garlic Chicken – made with the Air Fryer enhances the garlic flavor and you’ll love the creamy, tangy sauce.
- Green Curry Shrimp – this Thai-style shrimp has punchy flavors.
- Bulgogi Beef – “the simplest of bulgogi recipes with just the essential ingredients”.
- Lamb Chops with Horseradish Sauce – the easy horseradish sauce adds zing to the perfectly cooked chops.
- Korean Beef Tacos – gochujang (Korean red chile paste) adds sweet, spicy and umami flavors to this fun twist on tacos.
- Maple Pecan Tart with Sea Salt – Thanksgiving is next week… Just sayin’.
- Spiced Apple Cake – made with chopped Gala apples and a blend of spices, including nutmeg.
- Cajun Spice Mix – you can adjust the heat in this blend to suit your tastes.
- Lebanese Seven-Spice Mix – includes allspice, cloves and fenugreek for a wow-zer combination of flavors.

After two days of drooling over Urvashi’s dishes, it was time to cook. I let Scott choose the first recipe, and he picked Urvashi’s Brazilian Tempero Baiano Chicken Drumsticks based on the spice blend ingredients and how delicious her photos made them look.
Brazilian Chicken Drumsticks Ingredients
- Cumin Seed
- Dried Oregano
- Dried Parsley
- Ground Turmeric
- Coriander Seed
- Kosher Salt
- Black Peppercorns
- Cayenne Pepper
- Lime
- Olive Oil
- Chicken Drumsticks

Marinating The Chicken
I absolutely loved the ease and simplicity of this recipe as it only took 5 minutes to assemble the Tempero Baiano marinade. To really flavor and penetrate the chicken, you’ll want it to soak for several hours or overnight… however, if you’re pressed for time (we were) a 30 minute marinade will definitely highlight the punchy flavors in the chicken.

Using Mealthy CrispLid Air Fryer Converter
- Use the raised trivet to rest the fryer basket on in the multi-pot.
- Arrange the marinated chicken in a single layer.
- Turn on the Mealthy CrispLid Air Fryer Converter to 400° and cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping the air fryer drumsticks halfway through cooking.

Cook the chicken to an internal temperature of 165° (I like to use a good instant read thermometer for this {affiliate link}).

The Results
This chicken is spicy, tangy, juicy and flavorful. I think it came out just like Urvashi’s picture too (except I sprinkled with fresh parsley). We had the air fryer drumsticks with her Roasted Cauliflower with Cilantro Jalapeno Sauce for a healthy, zippy, tongue-tingling meal. As my daughter would say, “12 out of 10 — would recommend!“

I don’t have an air fryer. Like you not enough room for all the gadgets! This crispLid sounds great. I can turn my instant pot into an air fryer and start on all those wonderful recipes like these Brazilian chicken drumsticks!
Absolutely! Works like a charm!
Okay… this was absolutely delicious! It was so easy to make and had the best flavor. Will make again and again! Great giveaway too!
I like that Air Frying is a healthier option. I am interested in the Mealthy CrispLid
Great! Thanks for the comment, Kelly!
I like the thought of having the “fried” texture without the added fats usually required to have the same result. My sister has an air fryer, and she swears by it, but I have never tried the things she cooks in it. I do have a multi-pot, so the CrispLid would be a great addition to it.
I love the healthier aspect of the Air Fryer as well — and the CrispLid does a great job of evenly surrounding and “frying” the food.
