Even here in South Florida, we’ve been receiving winter blasts of cold. Well, it seems cold to us. And frankly, we revel in it because most of the year, our air conditioning is cranked to frosty and our eyelids sweat as we step outside.
So I thought I would do a roundup of hearty soups that will certainly wik the mild chill from my local readers and will even warm up our family in Virginia and Minnesota (how do you do it???)
Anyway, here goes…
If, like me, you’re a sucker for anything combining ham and beans — you’ll love this one! Brighten up the deep flavors of this smoky black bean and ham soup with a sprinkle of queso fresco, fresh cilantro leaves and a squeeze of lime!
Who doesn’t love French onion soup? And this is julia’s french onion soup from the blog: garlic my soul – (don’tcha just love that name?)
Smoked ham, kale and white bean soup – Yes, more ham and beans, but the savory broth and the addition of chewy kale give this thick soup deep flavor and substance.
Ham and vegetable soup with pistou – is a lighter, more vegetable dense soup – with green beans, carrots, white beans and farro. Dot it with a fresh herb pistou and grated parmesan. Dinner is served!
Vegetarian Tortilla Soup from Cookie + Kate gets it’s spicy kick from poblanos and jalape?os with cumin and garlic to boot! Then she gives it the “ice cream sundae” treatment and tops it with all your favorites!
A smoky corn chowder – loaded with potatoes, corn, lima beans and smoky sausage is indulgent and totally satisfying.
This broth-based kale, white bean and meatball soup – is just the thing to melt the chill. Loaded with carrots, tomatoes and scoop of orzo for good measure!
Inspired by a trip to New Orleans, red bean and sausage soup is made even better served with white rice and several healthy drops of Crystal hot sauce.
Mexican Chicken Soup from Endurance Zone is a spicy way to warm up from the polar vortex!
Arguably one of my family’s favorite dinners, spicy sausage soup with white beans, shells and kale has everyone coming back for seconds.
Completely vegan and absolutely filling and satisfying, barley and mushroom soup with a healthy dose of kale fills you up without filling you out!
I love the bright red color of this chicken minestrone soup from the blog: 3 boys unprocessed
Tuscan turkey tortellini soup was born of necessity when faced with a turkey carcass post-Thanksgiving. It might be worth making turkey more regularly if this is the result!
I’ve got more soups planned for the really frigid months ahead, so keep checking back or sign up for e-mail notifications.
